Molloscum. A journey to healing.
Writing this in the hope it can help other kids and parents.
💥 Molluscum Contagiosum
Our battle with this horrid problem started at the end of May this year. I noticed x4 pimple like dots on our daughter, Anas, inner L thigh. I thought 'hmm wonder why she's got pimples'. But she was fussing and wanted to get changed quick so i took no more notice of it after that.
A couple weeks passed and the number of dots grew, now they were on both thighs 😳 Showed hubby and because we both had no experience with this (Anas our only child) we felt it best to visit her GP.
GP took a look, said it was Molluscum and sent us away with the advice 'all kids get it, it will resolve on its own, don't do anything'. So we did just that, NOTHING.
1 month later and the dots have doubled in numbers, and spreading to behind her knees. She's uncomfortable, embarrassed and her ezcema flares in that area like it's never done before. Poor girl is in pain and itchy, very itchy.
I decide to read up about MC and quickly learned how contagious it is (it's in the name so I should've been more on to it). Alot of advise was to leave it, it would go away, sometimes after 2 years!! How could we leave our poor girl with this for 2 years! But there was some (mostly parents) who urged other parents to seek help, be it using Apple Cider Vinegar, popping it, covering it etc etc.
We dove right into getting her some help but because we had zero experience with molluscum, we tried various things.
These were the things we tried:
1. Mollenol oil & patches
2. Band aids to cover them at night
3. Apple Cider Vinegar (this hurt)
4. Popping them (this hurt her)
5. Coconut Oil
6. Vitamin D
7. Pushing more pribiotics into her
8. See Ya Later Gater
9. Antiseptic wash
Her skin got so macerated when we used the combo of #1,2 and 3. We took her to a private dermatologist who said that we needed to repair her skin and gave us paraffin. We used that 3 - 4 times a day and whilst it repaired her skin slightly, the dots were rapidly growing.
Once again we were told 'just leave it'. At this point we were so frustrated, Ana was in tears daily and it just broke our hearts that our poor girl was in such discomfort.
We prayed, when I felt so helpless and desperate I prayed for guidance, that God would put the right person/treatment in our path that would help her. And that's when I searched The Mum Hub. I used the search function and typed Molluscum. I read thru the many posts and the hundreds of comments from other mummas who were battling this. I happen to reply on x1 mums comment (that was 5 years old!) and she answered suggesting I look up Hannah's Bumble Balm. I had never heard of this business but I was willing to give anything a go.
I searched and looked thru Hannah's FB page, she was a local Kiwi mum making natural creams, oils etc. I sent her a message on WhatsApp and she answered suggesting I try her Warts Bee Gone oil that other parents had success with for killing the molluscum virus. I bought x2, and prayed 🙏
I have attached here the progress pictures from starting to use this miracle oil. I painted it onto each dot 2 - 3 times a day, it didn't hurt and Ana tolerated it being applied. At first more dots kept appearing but Hannah urged me to persevere and not give up. She was so responsive and helpful that it gave me the push I needed to carry on. And we did.
We started to notice that the core of each dot was starting to 'pop' up, and I could pull these out (the dot bleeds when the core is successfully removed). Other dots would dry over and then flatten. It was the reinforcement I needed to continue with this oil. 6 weeks later, every single dot is gone!! 🥳 . The scars are there but scars heal and we could now treat the ezcema.
I cannot describe the happiness and relief we all feel. Ana is her happy self again, so relieved that this horrible virus is gone. And if it was to return, we now have the right thing to get rid of it.
I cannot tell you how grateful we are for Hannah and the magic she creates. If your child is battling this, I urge you to get in touch with Hannah to see if this is something that you would like to try.
Thank you xx
